Friday Design Inspiration - Texture, Paint and Trim Details

This year our local Kaleidoscope of Homes had some themes that emerged in texture, paint and trim.

A faux crocodile headboard adds just the right impact in this neutral bedroom.

Texture is one of the most important items in design - especially in a more neutral color scheme. The homes in this year's tour of homes were filled with quiet colors and rich textures. 

A burlap head board with nail head detail is juxtaposed with a collection of embellished pillows.

Texture is easily added through accessories  like the faux bamboo box above....

Paint finishes like faux treatments stencils have evolved a lot over the years (thank goodness in some cases...I'm talking about you sponge paint!) and we saw some great options on the tour.

Large scale damask stenciling on sherbet colored walls - yum!

A striped scheme makes a smallish bath appear huge!

A tonal stencil boarder with a little jewel detail.

Lastly, we saw a lot of interesting design details, especially nail head trim used in a wide variety of applications.

Tons of Terrific Tile Inspiration

The Kaleidoscope of Homes here in North Texas was loaded with tile inspiration.

Home Tours = Design Inspiration

I've said it before, I'm a house stalker. Wherever I go and whenever I travel, I love to look at homes, gardens and the occasional interior. Local home tours legitimize my habit :) and I try to take advantage of every opportunity. One of the best local opportunities for North Texans to see what's happening in home building, architecture and interior design is the Kaleidoscope of Homes currently being held in Southlake, Texas in the Shady Oaks subdivision.

This year's Kaleidoscope is filled with design inspiration. I toured the four featured homes on Friday and will share some of the great design inspiration from the tour this week. A few quick peeks.....

Beach House Envy...

It never fails. Whenever I travel, near or far, I love seeing how other people live and decorate. Most of the time I'm relegated to snapping photos of exteriors and and imagining what the interior must be like - it's a subtle form of stalking :).

I just returned from visiting family in Delaware and Virginia and there was no shortage of beautiful homes to check out - especially along the Eastern Shore of Delaware. I'm a Virginia girl who spent a part of most summers growing up along the beaches of the East coast. In spite of living in Texas for years, every summer I'm overcome with the need to put my toes in sand - sand of the Atlantic, not the Gulf of Mexico!

The subjects of my home envy on this trip weren't the conventional beach houses directly on the ocean, but were instead the homes nestled in wooded areas with easy beach access - the best of both worlds.

Rockers AND a swing - heaven on a porch.

I love the variety of styles and finishes. Almost all of the front yards had an orientation to the outdoors - porches, great seating, welcoming details.

The classic, beachy Adirondack chair....

Rockers, Adirondack chairs, wicker furniture and swings (all of my favs!) were a part of every front porch or patio.

I'm heading to Colorado soon with my camera prepared for house envy to rear its head once again!
